Feast of Santo Niño

The fiesta of Santo Niño, which is also known as the Sinulog, is celebrated anywhere in the world where Filipinos reside. It is a celebration to honor the solemnity of the child Jesus Senior Sto. Niño as well as the first baptism of Christianity in the country.

Yesterday, the Filipino community in Ortenaukreis celebrated the Feast of Santo Nino in Offenburg. It was organized by KAPWA, an organization of Filipinos based here in Baden Württemberg. It also marked the second sinulog celebration of KAPWA headed by Tess "Nene" Walter.

The day started with a mass officiated by a German Priest and the church was full with the additions of Filipino attendees. I appreciated very much that the Parish Church and Parishioners celebrated the mass in honor of Santo Nino.

The celebration was highlighted by Santo Nino procession, tombola, dancing, karaoke and of course the most important when Filipinos gathers, the exchange of pleasantries and updates.

On saturday , another group headed by Lina Jaeger is also going to celebrate the Feast of Santo Nino. She started the holy event eight years ago and i also witnessed her strong dedication to the festivities. To the group, only the Santo Nino can truly measure how deep your resolve and devotions are, but our human eyes see how dedicated your groups are.

May we keep the spirit of Sinulog all throughout the year and may we always remember that we are all God's children.
