Figure Skater Kim Yu-Na

I'm really amazed by this 19-year old Korean skating star Kim Yu-Na who has set a new world record in figure skating championship in Vancouver, Canada winter olympics. With all the pressures and expectations, she could feel the weight on her shoulders. Her performance was superb and likely to be remembered as one of the best, all time high and world record.

Spring is Here??

Today, after a long and snowy winter, the temperature reached 16 degrees, an indication that spring is coming. The first rays of sun comes out also and i see a lot of bikers and people in parks and outdoor cafes soaking up the sun and enjoying the eagerly anticipated beginning of the warm season.

But the weather can be unpredicable and sometimes spring seems to arrive hesitantly, it can still snow in march and the weather in april may change from sun to rain or might even snow.

A Windy Friday

I'm supposed to buy something at Asia Shop today but due to a stormy weather condition, i decided not to do so. It's so windy outside that i just do some harvesting and planting on my farm. I'm referring to antonette's farm at Facebook. I started last week at Farmville and now i'm on Level 11.

Today i visited my colleague/close friends assigned at Union Hotel in Offenburg. They are already finished with their room assignments and they're just replacing a kaputt bulb when i arrive. Lucy just came back yesterday from their three weeks vacation in Tanzania and Kenya.

It's really an advantage for me to have a best friend who live nearby. Lunch or dinner is just a phone call away as if we have a kilometer long kitchen. Whatever we cooked or prepared, we share it. Today is different, Fe, another neighbor join us for lunch at Joy's place.

Brunch at Gwen's Place

Together with my friends, today we have a sumptuous brunch at Gwen's place. She cooked omelet, adobo, longaniza, two kinds of fried rice and muffins. We also bring banana cake and egg pie. It's my first time to joined them for a heavy meal meant to take the place of both breakfast and lunch. When we're together, we really have lots of fun.

Absentee Voting

Now voting is not anymore limited to residents living in our country. Through absentee voting, we now have the chance to exercise our privilege in choosing the right leader for the country. Voting is one of the most essential roles a citizen can play. As the number of Overseas Filipino Workers increase so does the number of absentee voters. The May 10, 2010 election will be the first national computerized election in the history of the Philippines.


The other day, i received my overseas absentee voting forms. I have to vote wisely and exercise properly my democratic right. The coming election coincide with my birthday, so its going to be a national party, everybody is invited... to vote.

Postal voting is allowed here in Germany. According to Republic Act No. 9189: Overseas Absentee Voting Act of 2003, section 17, Voting by mail may be allowed in countries that satisfy the following conditions:
Where the mailing system is fairly well-developed and secure to prevent the occasion of fraud;
Where there exists a technically established identification system that would preclude multiple or proxy voting; and,
Where the system of reception and custody of mailed ballots in the embassies, consulates and other foreign service establishments concerned are adequate and well-secured.
Thereafter, voting by mail in any country shall be allowed only upon review and approval of the Joint Congressional Oversight Committee.

Bonding with Relatives & Friend

Yesterday, my sister and cousins visited me here at home. We then drive to Freiburg to visit a family friend that i have not seen for a long time. The last time that i did go to their place was in 1991 when i'm here for a vacation and my mother was still alive. It was fun to be with my family here, it serves as our bonding moment together with a very good friend.

Jasmine's Birthday

Yesterday, our miracle baby Jasmine celebrated her 2nd birthday. She is a preemie baby being born earlier than full term. Due to the more advanced medical technologies, premature babies have big chances of survival. Luck was on the side of Mary's daughter, all her vital organs was normal only she looks smaller her age which is understandable.


She is a picture of a perfect health running around the house and playing with other children. Her celebration was attended by her playmates and her mother's closest friends. Mary cooked filipino dishes and the kids liked very much our very own Lumpia.


It's a wonderful celebration and as i saw the children playing, i suddenly miss my grandchildren.

Golden Wedding Anniversary

Spending half a century in love with one person is a wonderful statement about the gift of married life thats why the golden anniversary is one of the most celebrated wedding anniversaries. Last Friday, Auntie Prospy, the youngest sister of my mother together with her husband Uncle Manny, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with renewal of marriage vows.


Their marriage is a remarkable event and a memorable achievement. Every couple reaching this momentous milestone deserves recognition and the love of their family and friends around them.


Though i am a thousand miles away, Congratulations to you Auntie Prospy and Uncle Manny for your 50th wedding anniversary and wishing you both all the best and good health.

Shrove Tuesday

Today is fastnachtdienstag or faschingdienstag in Germany, in english its shrove tuesday, the day before lent begins. Because Lent is a time of abstinence when Christians abstain from luxuries, the day before it begins is traditionally a time for final enjoyment.

Different countries have different customs and ways of enjoying themselves on this day. Here in Germany, the celebrations involve carnival processions through the streets and lots of dressing up.


Today, our main streets was blocked because of the celebration. As usual, young and olds came in colorful costume. There are some stalls selling traditional foods and wines. Dirk ordered flammkuchen while the band on the background are playing german music.



The temperature is minus 3 degrees and we can't stand the cold so we decided to spend the rest of the afternoon at home. The Deichelbohrer also joined us for coffee and merienda sena.
